Our primary events are private functions that are only open to GSN members and their friends.

Graduate Student Network Private Party at WEBSTER HALL.
Our private event at Webster Hall is as an 'early party', starting at 8pm and continuing until 10pm when the venue opens its doors to the public.  For our private event, there will be complementary (free) beverage selections from 8pm to 9pm, a light buffet while it lasts, and 2-for-1 specials from 9-10pm.  You are also welcome to stay for the regular Webster Hall Saturday Party, which is called Circus.  Circus goes until 4am, features 5 floors with different sound spaces, a host of DJs and performers, and normally costs $20.

Webster Hall is North America's premiere entertainment venue.  Located in New York City's famous East Village, it is highly regarded as the first modern nightclub in America. Designed by renowned architect Charles Rentz in 1886, Webster Hall stands firmly as New York City?s largest and longest running nightclub. This 40 thousand square foot architectural landmark has been a gathering place for the people of New York City and the world for 137 years.

WWebster Hall's size and longevity are unmatched worldwide ? garnering it's reputation as ?the greatest party on earth'. In the 1910's, Eugene O'Neil, the great American playwright and leftist political thinker, declared Webster Hall "the crown jewel of Greenwich Village".  In 2004, prince declared Webster Hall "the best stage in New York City". Explore the venue that for over 130 years has been the focal point of cultural celebration and freedom in the heart of the world's greatest stage - New York City.

It was where the original bohemians, like Emma Goldman, Marcel DuChamp and Margaret Sangor, created unique costume balls to benefit nascent social and political causes.an style="">  Based upon the bacchanals in Paris and called such names as the "Blind Man's Ball," "The Pagan Rout", and "The Futurist Ball" they created the reputation of Greenwich Village which exists today. As Floyd Dell recalled, "they were spontaneously joyous and deliberately beautiful, focusing in a mood of playfulness the passion for loveliness which was one of the things that brought us to the village." It was the birth of the modern nightclub.

And, while it was not unknown to witness Emma Goldman, the outspoken exponent of Anarchist philosophy on one night herald the cause of free love and birth control -- on the next night, one might see the refined atmosphere and grace of a society function celebrating the nuptials of two of its elite.

In the 50's, R.C.A. Records recognized the extraordinary acoustical integrity of the building and converted it into their East Coast recording venue, Webster Hall studios. Carol Channing recorded "Hello Dolly," Harold Prince recorded "Fiddler on the Roof" and luminaries such as Julie Andrews, Elvis Presley, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra added their presence to the panoply of stars that the venue had witnessed.  On May 1st, 1980 The Ritz opened as the famous showcase venue for emerging rock acts. Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, Prince, Sting, Kiss, B.B. King, and Guns n' Roses all performed on what was routinely called, "the best stage in New York City." The Ritz was the first nightclub to feature a video component, which soon set the trend across America. The Ritz relocated in 1986 giving the opportunity for Webster Hall to be born.

More recently, Webster Hall has hosted a wide variety of corporate events and parties, including the NYC kick-off for Bill Clinton and Al Gore's successful election campaign.

Open every weekend, over half a million people will celebrate, dance and revel together on it?s famous dance floors this year alone. Webster hall is proud to host the best club DJs on the planet. Tiesto, Justice, Mstrkrft,  ATB and Deadmau5 are just a few of the names that have electrified audiences and shook Webster Hall to its foundation.

With an entire street practically dedicated to Webster Hall traffic, it's easy to spot the gateway to the ultimate dance party in New York City. Among its many credentials Webster Hall was recently named one of Nightclub & Bar?s 2009 top 100 largest and most successful nightclubs, bars, and lounges in the United States.

Each of Webster Hall's five unique dance floors feature a different style of music and dance, with stilt-walkers, trapeze artists, tarot readers, fire breathers, go-go dancers and other spectacles sprinkled throughout.
